What is a Turkish e-signature (e-imza)?
An e-signature (e-imza, formally a secure electronic signature) proves that you signed an electronic document and that the document hasn't been changed since. Under Türkiye's Electronic Signature Law No. 5070, it has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature.
The certificate is personal to you and comes on a small USB device called a token. With it, you can sign on systems such as e-Devlet, UYAP, EKAP and KEP from your own computer, instead of signing on paper.

Installation and technical support
Most e-signature problems show up the first time you use it. The most common ones are:
- The e-signature doesn't work: the token may need another USB port, or the driver may need reinstalling.
- PIN locked: the PIN locks after several wrong attempts; your PUK code can unlock it.
- Certificate not listed: the driver may be missing, or the certificate may have expired.
- Errors on UYAP or EKAP: the signing components those systems require may be missing.

Installing your e-signature token
Once your token is delivered, installation usually looks like this:
- Plug the token directly into a USB port on your computer (not a USB hub).
- Download and install the token driver from your certificate provider's official website.
- Install the signing software and, if you'll use it, the e-Devlet e-İmza app.
- Make a test signature with your PIN to check that everything works.

Renewing your e-signature
E-signature certificates are usually issued for 1, 2 or 3 years. Once yours expires, you can't make new signatures, but signatures you made earlier stay valid.
Many providers let you sign the renewal application with your current e-signature while it's still valid. After it expires, renewal usually works like a new application. That's why we recommend starting at least 30 days before the expiry date.
